The Causes Of Aging Skin Problems And How To Address Them

Aging skin problems are caused by three main things and a number of contributing factors. The contributing factors include nutritional deficiencies and inflammation. The three main things are decreased production of elastic fibers and new skin cells, free radical damage and low levels of hyaluronic acid.

You may be familiar with the first two, but many people are unfamiliar with hyaluronic acid. If you think of the skin's cells as building blocks, the glue that holds them together would be hyaluronic acid. The amount of hyaluronic acid in the skin's layers decreases with age, which contributes to wrinkling and sagging.

The reduced level of hyaluronic acid is due to enzymatic activity. Luckily, researchers have found that a natural compound occurring in wakame kelp inhibits that enzymatic activity.

In volunteers using creams containing the kelp extract, researchers saw levels of hyaluronic acid rise to those of a much younger person. So, that takes care of the third cause of aging skin problems. What about the other two? The prevention of free radical damage is a relatively easy thing to accomplish. It is an accepted fact that antioxidants inhibit free radical damage.

The idea that antioxidants can repair free radical damage is still just a theory. But, the latest studies supply evidence supporting that theory.It seems to depend on which antioxidant is used. Vitamin A creams are sometimes recommended and even prescribed, but they cause redness, itching and irritation, meaning they contribute to inflammation, that factor mentioned in the first paragraph.

Creams and oils containing vitamin E have been recommended for years and still are. Their effectiveness varies, probably depending on whether the natural or the synthetic form is used. Of course, vitamin E has never been shown to correct aging skin problems. It only helps to prevent them.The antioxidant coenzyme Q10, on the other hand, has been shown to:
* Reverse wrinkling
* Reduce roughness
* Improve moisture content
* Reverse sun damage

Since it reverses sun damage, researchers assume that it repairs free radical damage, which supports their theory. Stimulating the production of elastic fibers and new skin cells is something else.

Some natural extracts, such as avocado, have been shown to increase the amount of soluble collagen in the skin's layers and collagen is necessary to build new elastic fibers, but the production of new cells is something that was believed to simply become slower with age.

No one really believed that anything could be done about it. Luckily, researchers were interested enough in aging skin problems to apply results found in studies concerning faster healing rates.

Zinc and copper, when bound to protein, have been shown to stimulate the growth of new cells. A proprietary formula called CYNERGY TK contains zinc and copper bound to the protein keratin.

In clinical trials, the formula has been shown to increase the number of new cells in the skin's layers by as much as 160%.Some of the best creams for aging skin problems contain coenzyme Q10, wakame kelp and CYNERGY TK, as well as other beneficial ingredients. So, they address all of the causes of an aged appearance.
